Řetězový most

Most císařovny Alžběty pravděpodobně zůstane nejkrásnějším děčínským mostem, i když pouze ve vzpomínkách nebo na fotografiích. Byl postaven v roce 1851 a otevřel děčínským cestu k železnici. Ve třicátých letech přestal stačit náporu stále rostoucí dopravy, a tak byl na jeho místě v roce 1933 vybudován most nový (současný Tyršův most). K jeho stavbě byly využity původní kamenné podpory a plzeňští škodováci jej snýtovali za jediný rok. Požár řetězového mostu a výstavba nového Tyršova mostu Ocelový most přes Labe, postavený v roce 1933 plzeňskými Škodovými závody na místě staršího řetězového mostu. Generální oprava konstrukce se uskutečnila v letech 1996 - 1997. Po otevření železniční dráhy z Prahy do Drážďan na levém labském břehu (1851) se přemostění řeky stalo pro město Děčín životně důležitou podmínkou. K výstavbě mostu založili zdejší obchodníci, průmysloví podnikatelé (v čele s textilním továrníkem J. Münzbergem ze Starého Města) a hrabě František Antonín Thun akciovou společnost, která v letech 1853 -1855 postavila řetězový most (Thun poskytl k vyhudování předmostí část zámecké zahrady). Napojení území na pravém břehu Labe na železnici podnítilo rozvoj průmyslu a obchodu na celém Děčínsku. Most, jenž nesl jméno císařovny Alžběty, byl jedním z největších řetězových mostů v Čechách. Vystavěla ho firma Schertz z Pirny podle plánů inženýra Wernera, který pozměnil původní projekt J. Schnircha (zmenšení rozpětí mezi pilíři). Architektonickou úpravu mostu navrhl B. Grueher. Když s rozvojem automobilové dopravy přestala konstrukce mostu odpovídat zvyšujícím se technickým nárokům i rostoucí frekvenci, bylo třeba nové řešit dopravní situaci ve městě. Ačkoli Děčínští usilovali o zachování řetězového mostu jako významné stavební památky a o výstavbu nového moderního mostu na některém z dalších míst, zvítězilo ekonomické hledisko státu: úsporné osazení nové konstrukce na pilíře demontovaného starého mostu.
